Nicky English, a contributor to The Irish Times, is a former Tipperary hurler and manager. A classy full-forward as a player, he won two All-Ireland titles and was named an All-Star on six occasions. In a four-year spell as manager of the Premier County between 1998 and 2002 he won one All-Ireland and a Munster championship.
