A field of largely unexposed three-year-olds line up for today's Tote Stakes at Leicester.
The "darkest" of the 10 runners is the Ed Dunlop-trained Zulal and he can lose his maiden tag in the seven-furlong contest.
This half-brother to the classy Ramooz was too backward to do himself justice on his debut here last October and could only finish in mid-division on his next outing at Doncaster.
However, on his third and final appearance last season, the son of Zilzal caught the eye when staying on under considerate handling to finish fourth to Agiotage at Redcar in November.
His jockey subsequently reported that the colt had swallowed his tongue during the race, making the effort all the more meritorious.
Zulal, who has the scope to make up into a useful performer, looks to be making his handicap debut on a fair mark and can take this prize.
Tarawan finished ahead of Zulal at Doncaster and can also get off the mark in the opening Bescaby Maiden. Ian Balding's charge finished second to the highly-impressive Classic candidate Kilting on that occasion. He will not meet anything of Kilting's calibre here and the son of Nashwan can land the nap.
Sally Hall's Uniform can take the feature race at Musselburgh, the Mill Hill Handicap.
A spell over hurdles this winter, in which she scored twice, seemed to do the daughter of Unfuwain the power of good and she went on to win on the all-weather at Southwell in February.
She disappointed slightly when fifth at Southwell last time out but the slow pace may have been against her.
The filly could prove to be well-handicapped on her return to turf and can make amends for her last effort here.
Lord Bankes found only Seraphina too good in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster on the opening day of the turf Flat season and can go one better in the Carlyle Place Auction Maiden.
