Chelsea suffered an injury scare on the eve of their Champions League group decider against Lazio when influential captain Dennis Wise limped out of training.
Wise, who has started all but one of Chelsea's Champions League matches and scored four European goals so far this season, was injured in a tackle with Roberto di Matteo and hobbled off the pitch to receive treatment on his leg yesterday.
The seriousness of the Chelsea captain's injury is not yet known and manager Gianluca Vialli is likely to wait until today before making a final decision on whether to play Wise against Lazio at Stamford Bridge.
Although Chelsea have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, they need at least a point against the Italian side to ensure that they finish top of their group - and thereby avoid the three other group winners in the last eight.
While Jody Morris and former Lazio midfielder di Matteo stand by in case Wise does not recover in time, full-back Celestine Babayaro has apparently been cleared to play.
The defender was called up by Nigeria to skipper his country's under-23 side in their final qualifying match for the Olympics. And even though Babayaro said he did not want to travel, the Nigerian FA have insisted he must be available for the match on Saturday.
However, Chelsea have now revealed that the Nigerian FA have agreed to allow Babayaro to play against Lazio and then fly out to join up with his international team-mates.
