Cavan made a successful return to the hurling scene after a three year lapse when they won their opening game in Division Four of the National League, defeating Leitrim by 3-8 to 1-7 at Gowna.

Newly appointed team coach Paddy Kelly got a great response from a comparatively young team. A goal within three minutes of the throw in from full forward Francis Clarke was just the boost that Cavan needed, and they went on to lead at half time by 1-4 to 0-4.

Damian Walsh and Aidan Fitzpatrick scored their goals in the second half.
