American Jay Williamson, playing thanks to a sponsor's exemption, shot a three-under-par 67 on Saturday to hold a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Williamson, ranked 299th, saved par from a tricky lie with a delicate chip shot for a tap-in at the 18th to post a total of 11-under-par 199 and preserve his lead over fellow American Hunter Mahan.

Mahan also posted 67 for his 200 total, one stroke better than 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms. Toms slumped to a one-under 69 after bogeys at 16 and 17.

Alone in fourth place was 51-year-old Fred Funk, who also shot a 67 to stand three strokes off the pace at 202.

Mahan briefly held the lead after a birdie at the par-five 13th and Toms was alone at 11-under-par after a birdie at 14.

Williamson overhauled them with birdies at 15 and 16. The 304-yard, par-four 15th hole was not easy pickings for everyone -- Stewart Cink took a 10 shots there.

Toms had an up and down day with five birdies and four bogeys. He gave back two shots down the stretch with bogeys at 16 and 17, where he found water with his drive.

Funk shot himself back into the hunt after scoring three bogeys in his first six holes.
