Rotella reveals flaws of hypnosis:DR BOB Rotella worked his way like a mountain goat around the sand hills of Whistling Straits as he followed the fortunes of two of his men, Pádraig Harrington and Davis Love III, in the first round of the PGA Championship.
How we got on to the issue is another story, but at one point he was informed that Irish magician Keith Barry had offered to help out the Waterford hurlers with some hypnotising powers of positive thinking should they get to face Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final.
“Yes, it could work as a once off . . . until the first mistake is made, then they’ll know it’s not working,” said Rotella.
Woods gets in the mood
TIGER Woods was in good form at YE Yang’s champions dinner on the eve of the tournament. While Yang introduced Korean food to his fellow PGA champions – he enlisted the help of the Korean food authority to come up with a menu which included barbecued meat and different rice dishes – Woods, who was on the wrong end of a beating from Yang in last year’s PGA at Hazeltine, made a little speech of his own along the lines of, “The first time I met YE was at the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai and he beat my butt . . . the next time I met him was in the PGA, and he beat my butt . . .”
Incidentally, Woods’s early-round move had an interesting effect on the odds from bookmakers Paddy Power. At the start of the championship, he was rated a 14 to 1 chance. After birdieing his first hole, he was quoted at 13 to 2 and, then, after a birdie on the second, he moved to 4 to 1 favourite.
