Wesley's defence stands firm

Wesley College...3 The King's Hospital..

Wesley College ...3 The King's Hospital ...0A stunning second-half defensive performance by Wesley College helped earn them a 3-0 victory over The King's Hospital in their Lenister Schools' Junior Cup, Section B first-round tie at Templeogue College yesterday.

Despite spending almost the entire second half in their own 22, Wesley maintained their slender half-time lead, which they earned through a Henry Micks penalty on 21 minutes.

King's Hospital could have levelled the match in injury time when they were awarded a penalty right in front of the posts but they chose to go for the try, a decision that proved costly.

Flanker Stephen McCann and centre Richard Murphy deserve special mention after being particularly strong in the tackle for Wesley all afternoon but it was also very much a team effort that earned them the victory.
