Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen teamed up for a double at Tipperary yesterday evening with Power And Panache and La Serina.

Power And Panache, a son of Nureyev home bred by the Moyglare Stud Farm, made a winning debut in the Golden EBF Race. Smullen was hard at work at the rear of the six-runner field turning into the straight but his mount picked up well under pressure leading inside the furlong pole to beat Serena by three-quarters of a length.

"He is a tough, laid-back colt, and Pat gave him a fine ride," said the Rosewell House handler.

La Serina justified good support in the Primus Advertising Roscrea Maiden. The Royal Academy filly challenged between horses inside the final quarter-mile, and held the renewed effort of Hierarchy by a length. The winner is owned by Galway race committee chairman Thomas McDonogh, and is likely to reappear at the Festival meeting in Ballybrit.

Aidan O'Brien saddled the beaten favourites in both the above races but enjoyed better fortune in the opening EBF Maiden with Finnan. The son of Mr Prospector was driven clear a furlong out by Mick Kinane to provide the Ballydoyle trainer with his 10th juvenile success of the campaign.
