Records tumbled at the oldest golf course in continental Europe as former Ryder Cup player Brian Waites romped to a four-shot victory in the Elf Seniors Open at Pau on Saturday.

His final round 63 in southern France equalled the course record and gave him a 12-under-par total of 195, making him the first Senior Tour player to break 200 for 54 holes.

It was his first win in over a year, his sixth European Seniors Tour title, and comes only seven years after an horrific car crash which left him wondering if he would ever walk again.

Waites picked up six birdies during the round, including one on each of the last three holes, to surge clear of the chasing pack. He only dropped one shot all week, and that on the fourth hole of the first round.

Four shots adrift and runner-up for the second successive week was former Irish Amateur champion Denis O'Sullivan, who shot a final round 67 to also break 200 for 54 holes.

Starting the round tied with Waites, O'Sullivan let a number of birdie chances slip in the early stages and in the end found himself scrambling for pars to stay in touch.
