BASKETBALL:KILLESTER COLLECTED maximum points following a thrilling 97-96 overtime victory over Neptune at the the IWA in Clontarf on Saturday night.

Jermaine Turner stole the show as he contributed a superb personal tally of 45 points, while Peder Madsen contributed 21 points.

Neptune’s Ron Thompson and Roy Downey managed 23 and 20 points respectively.

“We were due a win in a game like that,” said Killester coach Darren O’Neill. “We still have a huge amount to learn, we are a young side, but if we perform we are good enough to go the whole way.”

UCC Demons returned to the top of the Southern Conference on the back of double success over the weekend, beating UL Eagles 91-86 on Friday night before a 20-point (84 to 64) win over UCD Marian yesterday at home.

Shane Coughlan led the scoring with 21 points against the Dublin side, while Niall Murphy managed 19 points.

“We have had a good weekend,” said Demons coach Paul Kelleher. “We have four games to go, and still have to play Neptune. There is a lot of work to be done, but we will take the positives out of this weekend.”

Aoife McDermott was in top form as UL maintained their impressive league campaign in a 81-68 win over DCU Mercy in the women’s SuperLeague.

Waterford Wildcats and Killester secured the points with victories over Ulster Rockets and Liffey Celtics respectively, while Team Montenotte Hotel Cork secured a vital win over Meteors as they set their sights on second place in the league.

“It was a great team performance,” said UL head coach James Weldon. “I have to give Aoife great credit.”
