THERE are no major surprises in the women's hockey squad announced by Terry Gregg for August's World Cup Qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe - but there will he disappointment in Leinster circles with the news that Mary Logue's brief spell as captain has come to an end now that Jeanette Turner has returned to the squad.
Turner is one of nine Ulster" players named in the 16, with Leinster and Munster contributing three players each. One vacancy still to be filled in the squad is the second goal keeping spot, which is likely to be taken by Tara Browne of Connacht, if she can prove she has recovered from a recent back operation, or by Munster's Sharon Hutchinson.
Old Alexandra's Trish Conway has been named in the squad for the Four Nations' Tournament in Dublin, which takes place the weekend after next, but will then be replaced by American based Lynsey" McVicker in the World Cup squad.
Turner's availability for Zimbabwe had been in some doubt when she missed warmup tournaments in Cardiff and Vancouver after suffering ankle ligament damage while playing for Pegasus in the European Cup Winners Cup at the end of March. In her absence Logue, who made international hockey her priority by not travelling to Sicily to play for Muckross in the European Club Championships, was appointed captain.
