Fred Funk, three days removed from eye surgery, fired a blemish-free five-under-par 66 yesterday to extend his lead to three strokes after two rounds of the Kemper Open.
Funk, who underwent surgery on Tuesday, had five birdies to push his total to 13 against only one bogey over the first two rounds. At 12-under 130, he was three shots better than two Australians, Stuart Appleby and Craig Parry, and American Chris DiMarco.
Appleby tied the course record with a 63, while DiMarco fired a 65 and Parry had a 66.
At the other end of the field, Ireland's Keith Nolan added a 75 to his first round 77 for 152 - 10 shots off the cut at 142. The biggest name to miss it was John Daly (74 for 146).
