Tait's tastes

Rugby Rebel: The Alan Tait Story promises to be a better read than most of the insipid autobiographies on the shelves

Rugby Rebel: The Alan Tait Story promises to be a better read than most of the insipid autobiographies on the shelves. Tait, the former Rugby League and now Union player for Scotland, is both outspoken and occasionally outrageous.

In one instance Tait boycotted a reception for the triumphant Lions team in London because: "I felt my principles would not allow me to attend a party in our honour at 10 Downing Street. There are many places I would have followed the victorious Lions, but a gathering hosted by New Labourites wasn't one of them. I felt it would have been hypocritical."

Tait supports blood sports so he stayed away in protest.

Amongst other things Tait also refers to the Lions centre Jeremy Guscott as having not so much a chip on his shoulder as a "fish supper" and continues to refer to the player as the "Mr High and Mighty Guscott".
