US Open runner-up Payne Stweart, seeking his first title in three years, fired a seven-under-par 64 on Thursday to grab a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the Greater Vancouver Open.

Stewart came within two shots of the course record at the Northview Golf and Country Club to take a two-stroke edge over John Maginnes. Maginnes stood alone in second place at five-under 66, gunning for his first ever PGA Tour victory.

Andre Magee and Guy Boros were in a group of 13 players three shots back on four under par.
