LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION: Drogheda Utd 1 St Patrick's Ath 2:A BLISTERING spell at the start of the second half when they scored twice in five minutes saw St Patrick's put an awful first-half display behind them and give themselves every chance of avoiding the relegation play-off.
Drogheda dominated the first half but could only muster a single goal after Brendan McGill whipped a cross into the box which James Chambers cushioned past goalkeeper Brendan Clarke.
It should have been 2-0 six minutes later when Brian King headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
St Patrick’s rattled the woodwork twice in 60 seconds at the start of the second half. Mark Quigley’s drive was tipped onto the post by Paul Skinner and Jason Gavin’s header came back off the woodwork.
The equaliser came on 49 minutes when Gareth O’Connor’s cross was headed home by Declan O’Brien. Five minutes later they went in front, Ryan Guy scoring from an acute angle.
King almost nicked a point for the home side when he wasn’t far away with his strike. The game ended with Chambers sent off after an incident with Guy.
