LEINSTER SCHOOLS SH A QUARTER-FINALS: St Brendan's, Birr 2-13 St Kieran's College 1-12:ST BRENDAN'S pulled off a major surprise by winning in Clonad, Co Laois, on Saturday.

It was the first time since 1986 that Birr defeated the Kilkenny school in knockout championship senior hurling.

Richie Power’s brother, John, flicked the sliotar to the net with five minutes remaining, but the Offaly side – who led 1-6 to 0-8 at the break – held their nerve to qualify for the Leinster semi-final.

Early goal sets Counsel on their way

Good Counsel 2-15 St Peter's College 0-12:GOOD COUNSEL College still believe they are good enough to achieve the double if this excellent victory over St Peter's, Wexford, is anything to go by in an entertaining clash at Enniscorthy on Saturday afternoon.

The New Ross college remain on course for the double as a result of this victory, setting the scene for what was to follow with a Declan Murphy goal after just eight minutes.
