WOMEN'S GOLF: The Women's Senior Golf Association has been authorised as the LPGA's official senior tour. Four events have already been planned for 2002, with participation initially open to players who have had an LPGA Tour card and who will be at least 44 on December 31st, 2002. From 2003, the age of participation moves to 45. Purses will range from $350,000 to $500,000.

MOTOR SPORT: FIA president Max Mosley hinted yesterday that the British Grand Prix would retain its world championship status for 2002. He said the signs were good and that the provisional July 7th date would probably be given the go-ahead following promises that Silverstone will get things right next year.

OLYMPICS: Britain's triple Olympic rowing champion Matthew Pinsent looks set to become a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after being appointed to the Olympic athletes' commission yesterday. The IOC said Pinsent would replace Czech javelin thrower Jan Zelezny, who has resigned his position on the athletes' commission because he wants to focus on his training for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
