Soccer:A logjam is developing at the top of the Airtricity League Premier Division after a night that saw plenty of jockeying for position ended with defending champions Shamrock Rovers just about keeping their noses in front.

With goals in short supply at Dalymount Park, Rovers seemed destined for defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals Bohemians when Keith Buckley bundled home 18 minutes from time and Gary McCabe received his marching orders leave the visitors scrapping with 10 men.

But Michael O’Neill’s side snatched a point from the jaws of victory with a last gasp Robert Finn equaliser, fully four minutes into injury time, to stay ahead of the chasing pack, on goal difference at least.

Elsewhere, Gavin Peers’s 33rd minute header was enough to earn Sligo Rovers a share of the spoils against Dundalk at Oriel Park. That point moves them into a three-way tie for the lead alongside Rovers and Derry City, who crushed Galway 4-1 at Terryland Park
