Real Madrid’s title hopes hit by late goal against Valladolid

European round-up: Real Madrid's La Liga title challenge was left hanging by a thread after a late Humberto Osorio header earned Real Valladolid a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, as Cristiano Ronaldo went off with a hamstring injury for the hosts.

Real were hoping to keep the pressure on Atletico Madrid at the top of table, but instead they remain down in third place, four points off their city rivals and a point behind Barcelona with two games to play.

The match started badly for Real with Ronaldo hobbling off with a suspected hamstring strain.

They went ahead, however, when Sergio Ramos, celebrating the birth of son Sergio on Tuesday, and his 400th Real appearance, swept home a free-kick after 35 minutes.

It was not enough though as relegation-threatened Valladolid levelled with Osorio nodding home with five minutes left on the clock.

The result opens the door for Barcelona, who know that a win in the final match of the season against Atletico would hand them the title, providing they beat Elche away on Sunday.

Paris St Germain celebrated their second consecutive Ligue 1 title with two games to spare on Wednesday despite suffering their first home league defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss to Rennes.

Laurent Blanc’s team secured the championship shortly before kick-off after second-placed Monaco were held to a 1-1 draw by Guingamp.

The result left PSG, on 83 points, with an unassailable seven-point lead at the top of the standings.

PSG, who also won the League Cup this season, needed Guingamp to snatch at least a point at Louis II to be crowned champions without kicking a ball.

Dimitar Berbatov headed home from point-blank range to open the scoring for Monaco in the 77th minute, only for Fatih Atik to level five minutes from time.

The result triggered scenes of celebration at the Parc des Princes a few minutes before the kick-off .

There were a few boos at half-time after goals by Foued Kadir and Paul-Georges Ntep gave Rennes a 2-1 lead.

Ezequiel Lavezzi opened the scoring for PSG on three minutes after being set up by Edinson Cavani.

Kadir beat Salvatore Sirigu with a low cross shot in the 23rd minute and Ntep’s free kick sailed past the Italian goalkeeper.

The crowd's discontent made room for pure joy when striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his comeback from a five-week injury lay-off when he came on for Lavezzi in the 56th minute.

The Swede forced Benoit Costil into a spectacular save with a 40-metre missile but he failed to add to his 30 league goals this season.

PSG defender Alex had the best chance to equalise in stoppage-time but his header crashed against the bar.

The result meant that Rennes, now 13th with a six-point lead over 18th-placed Sochaux, have virtually secured their place in the top flight thanks to a comfortable goal difference.
