Derry boss Roddy Collins booed after scoreless draw with Limerick

Back-to-back scoreless results against Bray and Limerick was not what the doctor had ordered at the Brandywell yesterday, and Roddy Collins was booed off after both games as a result.

Indeed, after what proved an horrendous encounter, with neither team inspiring confidence, it was Limerick who departed for home much the happier having kept a clean sheet.

Derry created the best chances with both teenagers Michael Duffy and Ryan Curran failing to put the ball in the net when well placed late in the second half, but the story centred on further criticism of the Brandywell boss afterwards.

With last year’s top marksman Rory Patterson watching from the stands, Collins refused to be intimated.

“I picked players that looked hungry and wanted to give 100 per cent. They’re doing it in training, and they deserved their chance,” said the Dubliner afterwards.

And on having been booed after his second consecutive game, Collins said: “If people want to slag or whatever then that’s fine with me. I’ve heard all that before, and everyone has their own opinions. They’re entitled to that and I respect other people’s opinions. It’s easy to pull out statistics, but last year is last year. I’m more interested in what’s happening this year.”
