Giovanni Trapattoni will make a late decision on his midfield for tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Cyprus after insisting he has no problem with Andy Reid. The Republic of Ireland boss will have to alter his quartet in the middle of the pitch with Blackburn's Steven Reid unavailable through injury.

However, namesake Andy seems unlikely to get the nod despite a growing clamour for his inclusion, with Trapattoni instead expected to name his Sunderland club-mate Liam Miller in the starting line-up.

But the Italian has admitted Darron Gibson and Keith Andrews, who were drafted into the full squad after turning in good displays in the B side's 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last week, have also given him food for thought.

He said: "In midfield, I have ideas. But after tomorrow, I will have to speak again with the players. They have all been good, every midfielder. I am finding it very difficult to choose because they are all good.

"They are in very good condition at the moment."

Asked if Manchester United's Gibson or Andrews of Blackburn could be involved, Trapattoni added: "Maybe. One, maybe. I am not sure because also Liam Miller and Glenn Whelan have played well, but also Gibson, also Andrews."

But Andy Reid appears once again to have been overlooked by the 69-year-old as his wait for any football under the new manager continues.

The Dubliner is yet to play a single minute since Trapattoni took over the reins and opted for a combative central midfield system which has served him well throughout his five-game unbeaten run to date.

Whelan and Steven Reid were his preferred pairing against Georgia and Montenegro, and even the Blackburn man's absence seems unlikely to ease his Sunderland counterpart's woes.

But amid rumours of a bust-up between manager and player at the team hotel after the 2-1 victory over Georgia in Germany last month, Trapattoni moved to dismiss talk of a rift.

He said: "I never have pre-judgements on any players. I get angry often when the players are on the pitch, and it goes away in five minutes. The most important thing is the players, but no, I don't have any problems with anybody.

"I choose in all honesty and I choose thinking about the interests of the team. I don't understand why Andy Reid is more important than other situations.

"We have been here four months and we have played with another team."
