Italy coach Marcello Lippi insists Francesco Totti is still in his World Cup plans despite seeing the playmaker break his leg while playing for Roma at the weekend.

The Giallorossi captain fractured his left fibula and is also thought to have suffered ankle ligament damage after a crunching tackle from Richard Vanigli in Roma’s 1-0 win over Empoli yesterday.

The 29-year-old has already undergone surgery to repair the damage and initial estimates predict he will be sidelined for between two to three months.

"We will do everything possible to allow him to recover in time for the World Cup," said Lippi. "He is a great player, is very important for us and we will wait for him."
