Fernando Torres was back in Liverpool’s starting line-up for the first time since November following his hamstring problems. Robbie Keane was also included for the 209th Merseyside derby while Xabi Alonso returned to the side after missing the previous game against Stoke.

Everton, who have gone nine hours without conceding a goal, were without the suspended Marouane Fellaini. Young striker Victor Anichebe came into the side.
