Gerrard gives Liverpool late win

 

Captain Steven Gerrard scored in the last minute as Liverpool came from behind for a 2-1 home win over Middlesbrough in the Premier League today.

Egyptian striker Mido put the away side ahead in the 70th minute before Jamie Carragher levelled through a deflected shot four minutes from time.

Elsewhere, substitute Michael Owen headed Newcastle United to a 1-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers in his first game of the season, while Tottenham Hotspur went down to a shock 2-1 home defeat by Sunderland, debutant Djibril Cisse netting the winner.

Promoted Stoke City scored four minutes into stoppage time through Malian striker Mamady Sidibe for a surprise 3-2 home win over Aston Villa, Everton beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 and Blackburn Rovers were held 1-1 by Hull City.

Chelsea are away to Wigan Athletic tomorrow and champions Manchester United visit Portsmouth on Monday. Arsenal play Fulham in the late game.
