Galway United's Derek Glynn is the eircom / Soccer Writers Association of Ireland (SWAI) Player of the Month for June. The striker scored five goals in four games - bringing his tally to seven in five - for Tony Cousins's side.
Such has been the striker's impact that Glynn this week agreed a contract extension which secures his services at Terryland Park until the end of next season.
"I'm delighted to be offered a contract extension so early into my Galway career," he said. "The last two months have been amazing and hopefully this will be the start of something big for me at a professional level in football.
"When I heard that I had won the award I thought I was Galway's Player of the Month," added the 24-year-old who has taken the league by storm since moving from Mayo League side Claremorris in February. "To be picked as the best in the whole league is an honour.
"Moving to Galway United was a huge step up for me. At Claremorris we were a junior team. We weren't even in the First Division of the Mayo League. But I was scoring 20 to 30 goals in a 16 game league season plus cup games, and I thought I could do it in the Premier Division.
"When I got my first start against Bohemians I was looking at them in the dressing room and they were all big name players who have won medals. I was thinking, if I'm chosen to be in this company I must be doing something right."
Glynn made his debut in May scoring twice against Longford and followed that up with another two in a 2-1 win over high-flying St Patrick's Athletic at the start of June. He scored another brace in a 2-2 FAI Cup draw with Finn Harps before topping up his account in the 1-1 draw with Shamrock Rovers.
"Derek has got the goals but the team has done very well after a tough start to the season," said Cousins whose side sit 10th in the Premier Division. "It shows we are going in the right direction. Since starting he has been brilliant for us and his goals speak for themselves. He's a great lad who wants to learn and do his best."
