Sven-Goran Eriksson is ready to call off his search for a new keeper because of Kasper Schmeichel's outstanding form.
Schmeichel made an unexpected debut at West Ham last week, then kept his place for the home win over Derby on Wednesday even though Eriksson was scouring Europe for an alternative.
Current Italy second choice Marco Amelia and Bolton's Jussi Jaaskelainen have both been strongly linked with a move to the Eastlands outfit, yet so far there has been no indication either will eventually arrive.
Indeed, with Schmeichel keeping a third consecutive clean sheet in yesterday's brilliant win over Manchester United, the club his father Peter served with such distinction, Eriksson is now thinking about leaving the situation as it is.
"Finding a keeper that is better than the ones I have is not easy," he said. "Kasper is very good in training. He is quick and you don't find many keepers better than him on the line.
"He takes everything and he almost destroys the confidence of our strikers in shooting practice."
With current England Under-21 international Joe Hart on the bench yesterday and Sweden World Cup star Andreas Isaksson recovering from a fractured thumb, Eriksson is tempted to divert his attention elsewhere.
Although he has already brought in eight outfield players since succeeding Stuart Pearce as manager last month, Eriksson feels more are required if City are to come close to sustaining their present moment.
Stephen Ireland's absence from yesterday's win left Eriksson short of midfield options and that is the area the Swede is keen to strengthen ahead of the transfer window closing on August 31st.
"Stephen was up all night, so it was impossible for him to play," confirmed Eriksson. "I still believe we need one or two midfielders."
As the search for fresh faces continues, Eriksson confirmed he would be watching a game on Wednesday but tantalisingly failed to reveal whether he would be at Wembley to see England tackle Germany.
