Irish Triple Olympic gold medallist Michelle Smith will compete in a lucrative one-day "skins" event in Sydney next month. Smith, who won two individual medley events and the 400 metres freestyle at last year's Atlanta Olympics, has agreed to compete in Sydney on August 30th, six days after the end of the European Championships in Spain.

Under the "skins" rules, swimmers in each event compete in a series of elimination races until just one competitor is left. Each of the 12 events will carry total prize money of around £45,000. 9982688
