Equestrian: The Show Jumping Association of Ireland will today present its written response to four questions posed by the Equestrian Federation a fortnight ago, Grania Willis reports.

SJAI national chairman, Tony Hurley, said last night that a courier will be delivering the document "before the close of play" in a bid to lay to rest a turbulent chapter in the association's history.

At a meeting of the federation's board of directors two weeks ago, a series of questions were drafted centring mainly on the SJAI's failure to appoint a full-time financial and business director.

The federation also requested a definition of the term "vested interest", which was contained in last December's damning fivepage report issued by the association's finance and management committee.

Since the meetings two weeks ago of both the federation and, subsequently, the SJAI executive, two members of staff have resigned.

Director general Tony Kelly handed in his resignation on January 31st citing health grounds and was followed by Gerry Thompson, vice-chairman of the association last year, who had been working in the SJAI's Dublin offices since last July.

Federation president Lewis Lowry confirmed this week that there will be no meeting of the EFI board today. He said that both he and the federation's secretary general, Ned Campion, will be considering the SJAI response and "will call a meeting as soon as possible after that".

Swimming: The Gonzaga College boys senior relay team last week won the 4x50 metre freestyle team relay at the Leisureland Pool, Salthill, Galway in a close to record time of 1:42.55 seconds, only .09 of a second outside the Irish Schools' Senior Championship record time.

The team achieved the result following wins in both the Leinster Senior Cup 4x50 metre freestyle relay and 4x50 metre medlay relay, breaking two Leinster records in the process.

The team of Mark Doyle, John Mathews, Ciaran Kinsella and captain James Mathews held off second placed Belvedere and third placed St Colman's from Claremorris in the Leinster Championships.
