EAMONN SCALLAN, the Wexford hurler who was sent off in the All Ireland final against Limerick, has been suspended for three months. He was dismissed by Offaly referee Pat Horan for striking Limerick's Steve McDonagh with his hurley.

Meanwhile, All Ireland echoes could be picked up in last Sunday's Galway senior football championship semi final between Dunmore McHales and An Ceathru Rua. The Carraroe side won, 0-10 to 0-8, and will hope to have Mayo's All Ireland corner forward Anthony Finnerty back on board in time for the county final, against Oranmore-Maree.

During the semi final, Dunmore's Martin Finn was injured and taken to the local Bon Secours hospital. He is reportedly in good form despite a couple of cracked ribs.

Finn is a Mayoman whose brother John received one of the last decade's most celebrated injuries when his jaw was broken by an unknown (or by this stage, more unspoken) assailant when he was playing for Mayo against Dublin in the 1985 All-Ireland semi-final (another draw).

The other All-Ireland connection involved Dunmore's John Donnellan, who was sent off in injury-time. Donnellan's father, also John, was sent off in the 1965 All-Ireland final.
