SALESIAN COLLEGE, Celbridge lifted the FAIS Leinster under 16 Cup for the first time when they battled through wind and rain to deservedly emerge 3-1 winners over Old Bawn CS in the final at Tallaght yesterday.
Salesian always looked the more accomplished side and despite playing against the wind in the first half got the tonic of the lead goal after seven minutes through Colin Martin. They lost that advantage two minutes before the break when Richard Baker headed past under 15 schoolboy international goalkeeper Robert Hannon.
The winners regained the initiative in the 50th minute with Colin Martin again their marksman and they sealed their success in the 76th minute when a free kick on the left by Shane Harte found Michael Moore in space and his downward header skidded past goalkeeper J P Swaine.
