Ryhane too good for The Quads in Troytown

Arthur Moore saddled three runners for yesterday's Golden Pages Troytown Handicap Chase and supplied the first two home in the Navan feature when Ryhane, in the hands of Tommy Treacy, came home five lengths clear of stable-companion The Quads and Barry Cash.

Moore, recording his third Troytown success, was jubilant afterwards. "It was a joy to watch, and Tommy gave the winner a smashing ride."

On future plans, Moore mentioned the Paddy Power Handicap Chase, but added: "I'm sure the handicapper will have got hold of him now but I'm not complaining after those two pots," referring to Ryhane's other success in a valuable Wexford chase. There was a sad conclusion to the race when Edward O'Grady's 11-year old Gimme Five, who finished fifth under Ken Whelan, tragically suffered a fatal heart attack moments later. Frances Crowley won the opening Tara Three-Year-Old Hurdle when Golden Rule, a four-time winner on the flat this year, made an eye-catching debut over the smaller obstacles to justify favouritism for Ruby Walsh.

"He'll head for the Dennys over Christmas and hopefully he will run again, possibly at Fairyhouse, beforehand, as this race took little out of him," remarked the Piltown trainer after her charge loomed alongside front-running Fionnula's Rainbow approaching the last before drawing right away to score by 10 lengths. Walsh went on to team up with Navan specialist Rince Ri, trained by his father Ted, in the EBF Beginners Chase, and the partnership jumped well throughout to make a winning debut over fences from Native Estates. Successsful three times over hurdles at the track last season, he will bid for a five-timer at the venue next month before heading for Leopardstown at Christmas.
