Munster preparations for Saturday's Heineken Cup semi-final received a welcome boost this morning as Denis Leamy played his part in training at Thomond Park.

Declan Kidney put his charges through their paces at Thomond Park and the Ireland international, battling to recover from the ankle injury picked up at Twickenham, appears to be winning his race to be fit to face Perpignan.

Kidney is expected to give further details at a press conference scheduled for later this afternoon.

Meanwhile Mark McHugh has signed a new contract with Connacht which will keep the 27-year-old with Michael Bradley's side until at least the end of next season.

McHugh joined the western province from Leinster and is now in his fifth season with Connacht. He has battled against a career-threatening knee injury and glad to be back playing.

"It is great to be back in action. I knew when it happened me that it would take a huge effort to get back but thankfully it has worked out and there have been no problems,' said McHugh.

He is now looking forward to taking on Newcastle Falcons in the European Challenge Cup quarter-final on Friday. "It is a huge game for us. It is great to be in contention at this time of year. Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves, especially as a lot of things are falling into the place at the moment.

"The win over the Borders on Friday night was a huge boost for us. It was a difficult game but we worked hard and were just determined we were going to win it. We will go into the Newcastle game with the same attitude.

"It is a case now of going over there and giving it everything. It would be great to get a win as we would then have the semi-final in Galway. We have everything to play," he added.
