A final-round 69 was not enough to secure Englishman Justin Rose victory in the Funai Classic at Walt Disney World in Florida as Joe Durant ended a 151-event drought on the PGA Tour with a four-stroke victory.
While Rose's tight round, including only one bogey, was only sufficient to earn him fourth place, Durant produced a flawless final round, compiling seven birdies to post a flawless seven-under-par 65 in ideal conditions on the Magnolia course and finished at 25-under 263.
Frank Lickliter (62) and Troy Matteson (70) tied for second at 267.
Durant, 42, is perennially one of the best drivers on tour, but mediocre putting has prevented him from having the sort of career he perhaps should have.
However, he mastered the grainy greens to collect his fourth PGA Tour title, his first since 2001, when he won back-to-back events.
Starting the final round one stroke behind third-round leader Matteson, he took a while to make his move, taking the lead for good with a birdie at the par-five 10th to go 22 under.
With nobody else able to mount a serious challenge, Durant was under little pressure, but he added further birdies at the 13th, 14th and 16th holes for good measure to win in style.
Rose bounced back from a 72 yesterday to finish 20-under, ahead of former world number one Vijay Singh and Davis Love who were in a four-way tie for fifth.
