Rely on Sampower Star to reach the frame

Backers looking for a good value each-way chance in the Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup at Haydock today could do worse than opt for Sampower Star.

On the face of it Richard Hannon's charge looks to have very little chance of overturning recent form with favourite Diktat from their recent Deauville encounter.

The Godolphin representative recorded a five-and-a-half-length verdict over Sampower Star in last month's Group One event but the selection looked to have an off day.

And he certainly bounced back last Sunday when, over the same course and distance, the colt looked a shade unlucky in going down by a short head to Vision Of Night.

Interest in Diktat has been high since Godolphin showed their hand for this race but there are one or two negatives to be taken into consideration.

With the sun cracking the flags on Merseyside, the ground might just be a shade too firm for Frankie Dettori's mount.

And trainer Saeed bin Suroor himself hinted that the six-furlong trip may only just be far enough. One of the positives about Diktat's chance is his high draw against the rails.

However, Sampower Star will be berthed just two stalls away in box 14 and in-form jockey Richard Hughes can guide his mount to a place - at the least - and maybe even add to his fine strike-rate in sprints this season.
