The £2 million BellSouth Classic, final warm-up event for next week's Masters, begins again in Atlanta today after yesterday's play was washed out.

The only action was from 7 a.m. to 7.48 a.m., with just 29 players, Ian Woosnam and Swede Pierre Fulke among them, teeing off before the already bad conditions deteriorated and made the TPC at Sugarloaf course unplayable.

The decision to abandon play for the day - and cancel the scores - was taken at noon and the happiest man was American Doug Dunakey, who double-bogeyed his first two holes but now gets the chance to start afresh.

Australian Craig Parry had double-bogeyed the first and when he saw tournament director Slugger White he said: "How much do I owe you?"

Meanwhile, John Daly has written to Augusta National Golf Club hoping for a late invitation to next week's Masters.

Daly's five-year exemption from winning at St Andrews expired last year, but his letter pleads his case for an extension because he did not play in 1997.

Cork's Denis O'Sullivan launched his 2001 season on the European Seniors Tour with a three-under-par 69 in the Royal Westmoreland Barbados Open to sustain his dream of completing a long-range hat-trick of victories five months apart.

O'Sullivan, who won the two closing tournaments last year, fired four birdies and had just one bogey as he finished five behind leader Priscillo Diniz of Brazil.

Co Louth's Paddy McGuirk managed one better than O'Sullivan, finishing the opening round with a four-under-par 68. Raymond Kane and Eddie Polland finished further back on 74 and 75 respectively.
