Bad weather at the Booz Allen Classic meant Ben Curtis was made to wait a few more hours to close out his first victory since his surprise win at the 2003 British Open.

Curtis held a five-stroke lead heading into the final round as organisers attempted to avoid any problems with rain.

The 29-year-old Curtis, who won at Royal St Georges after Denmark's Thomas Bjorn dropped four shots in his final four holes, had only one top-10 finish the following year and only two last season, failing to end the year in the tour's top 100 either time.

However, after seven holes of the final round Curtis had moved seven shots ahead of Padraig Harrington and Ben Grane, who had played 10 holes. Harrington, out in 32, also birdied the 10th hole to move to five under for the day.
