Quinn to return to top flight

NIALL QUINN is poised to make a quick return to the Premiership by joining newly promoted Sunderland

NIALL QUINN is poised to make a quick return to the Premiership by joining newly promoted Sunderland. Manchester City have agreed an undisclosed fee with Sunderland for Quinn, who was this afternoon having talks with Roker Park manager Peter Reid.

Quinn, who played in City's final pre season game at Plymouth on Saturday, has been linked with former team mate Reid throughout the summer.

The Republic of Ireland World Cup player flew to Malaysia a fortnight ago and was set to join Salangor, but that deal fell through.

Quinn said: "It was a never a question of me kicking down the door to get away. I have had some great times, but was hoping things would be sorted out before the season."
