LEOPARDSTOWN:PURSUIT OF Glory might have come up short of Classic glory in the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas, but dropping back to six furlongs for this evening's Leopardstown Group Three feature should be ideal for David Wachman's filly.
There was no disgrace in coming up short against Ghanaati and rivals a month ago, but pre-race doubts about Pursuit Of Glory lasting out a mile did appear to be realised.
The daughter of Group One-winner Sophisticat boasts some very smart form at shorter distances, including a third in the Cheveley Park Stakes where she may have finished even closer but for running a little green into the Newmarket dip.
Pursuit Of Glory lines up for the Ballyogan Stakes, in which she comes out clear on ratings against the likes of Maoineach, who doesn’t look to have progressed since winning here in April, and a cross-sea raider in Lessons In Humility. This evening’s main support event, the Listed Glancairn Stakes, looks a much trappier affair in which Indiana Gal could provide a pre-Classic boost to Perfect Truth in tomorrow’s Oaks.
Pat Martin’s four-year-old beat Perfect Truth at Dundalk in April, and, while she looks to have it all to do on ratings today, she also looks likely to handle fast ground better than some of her opposition.
The David Wachman-Johnny Murtagh team could also be on the mark in the seven-furlong handicap with Oasis Sunset, a filly owned in partnership by Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary and Coolmore Stud’s John Magnier.
Ground conditions should suit the three-time winner Universal Truth, who lost little in defeat behind the outstanding Dunguib at Punchestown.
The trip for today’s amateur race looks ideal for Dermot Weld’s horse.
The Forpadydeplasterer combination of Barry Geraghty and Tom Cooper team up again in the opener at Tipperary, when Total Excitement can go one better than his second to Elysian Rock at Punchestown recently.
