Digest: Munster rugby player Mike Prendergast has been invited to join the Limerick senior football panel in training.
John Ryan, PRO for the football board, confirmed that Prendergast, who played several games in the Celtic League, had been discussed as a possible addition to the panel. "Mike won a county under-21 football medal with Na Piarsaigh so he is hardly entirely new to the game," said Ryan.
Meanwhile, dual players Stephen Lucey and Conor Fitzgerald could be twice in action for the county inside 24 hours next month. Limerick hurlers will play their All-Ireland qualifiers on Saturday, June 18th, with the footballers scheduled to meet the winners of the Munster championship first-round game between Kerry and Tipperary on June 19th.
County board chairman Denis Holmes said hurling manager Joe McKenna and his football counterpart, Liam Kearns, had reached common ground. "There is a lot of goodwill around the county after the hurlers' performances against Tipperary and we are all adult enough to meet such situations without causing a fuss." said Holmes.
DERRY: Derry have turned to an unusual source ahead of their Ulster football championship tie against Monaghan on Sunday week. Mickey Moran and John Morrison visited rugby club Leicester Tigers. Morrison said: "We were surprised players like Martin Johnson, Neil Back, Ben Kay and Martin Curry were fairly knowledgeable about Gaelic football and the fact there is a possibility that international rugby could be played at Croke Park."
