TERENURE, with Colin Potts scoring two second half tries, captured the Heineken sponsored Metropolitan Cup for the sixth time in the club's history in overcoming Old Wesley at Donnybrook last night.
Wesley started in lively fashion, Craig Brownell gaining valuable lineout possession for halfbacks Graham Walsh and Simon Mitchell to assert themselves. Mitchell kicked two early penalties, while Peter Walsh responded for Terenure with an easy 17th minute penalty.
Terenure upped the pace from the restart. Adrian O'Farrell kicked them into the Wesley 25, and Potts drove over for a try with just three minutes of the half gone. Walsh added the conversion. Potts scored his second try in the 51st minute following good work from Brian Buckley. Walsh again added the conversion and Adrian O'Farrell's 73rd minute dropped goal cancelled out Mitchell penalties to seal a deserved victory.
