GALWAY SHC:THE LOSS of the suspended Joe Canning and Andy Smith proved costly as three-times All-Ireland club champions Portumna were sent crashing out of the Galway SHC 1-10 to 0-12 by St Thomas in a gripping contest at Ballinasloe.
A goal just before half-time from Galway intercounty midfielder David Burke proved key for St Thomas.
Finian Coone’s late point earned Mullagh a deserved draw against defending All-Ireland champions Clarinbridge at Athenry. Goals from Ollie Fahy and Keith Killilea helped Gort reach the semi-finals at the expense of last year’s losing finalists Loughrea. Craughwell are also into the semi-final after a 0-19 to 0-11 victory over Carnmore.
