Scott Barron's every move on court was under camera surveillance at Riverview yesterday. It was nothing out of the ordinary, however, as his coach Francis Rawlestone taped his entire match in the ITF International Futures event for later analysis.
The action replay was sure to prove pleasant viewing. Barron took just over an hour to rebuff the challenge of a New Zealand qualifier Rob Cheyne 6-3 6-2.
"It was a very mature display by Scott," said a pleased Rawlestone, who is now sufficiently pleased with Barron's career to accompany him abroad for tournaments. It is an arrangement that is the envy of all other aspiring Irish players.
Barron hopes to maintain his new found form in today's stiff test against Yahlya Doumbia (Senegal), the number four seed, who is ranked 299th in the world.
Despite another day's play curtailed by rain, referee Steve Mehigan is satisfied that he is "getting there".
Owen Casey is through to the second round following his straight sets win over Australian qualifier Luke Bourgeous 7-6 6-3. Casey took just over one and a half hours to complete his task but the win could prove costly due to a back injury picked up in the first set.
