BBC1 (8.0) - Live Football: Strasbourg v Liverpool (UEFA CUP, second round, first leg). Just think, if these two teams had lost their first-round ties we'd be watching Rangers take on Celtic tonight. But you can't have everything, Strasbourg v Liverpool it is. EUROSPORT (9.30) - Live Football: Atletico Madrid v PAOK Salonika (UEFA CUP, second round, first leg). Followed by highlights of Ajax v Udinese and Inter Milan v Lyon.

TnaG (10.30) - All-Ireland Gold Hurling: Kilkenny v Cork (1992 All-Ireland final)

Wednesday

Network Two, UTV (7.30) - Live Football: Manchester United v Feyenoord (Champions League). Highlights of the rest of the night's Champions League matches on UTV at 11.55, with a full showing of PSV Eindhoven v Newcastle on the same channel at 2.45 in the morning. BBC2 (9.50) - The Rugby Club: In the Bleak Midwinter. This week, head coach Brian Ashton has gone on a permanent holiday, there's a coup in the boardroom and things go from bad to worse on the field, with the team losing its grip on the league. In other words, an average week in the life of Bath Rugby Club last season. A trip to Plymouth is suggested as a `morale booster'.

Thursday

TnaG (10.30) - All-Ireland Gold Football: Donegal v Dublin (1992 All-Ireland final). FRIDAY

Network Two (6.05) - The Grip. The future of club rugby in Ireland is the topic under discussion this week - Kurt McQuilkan and Moss Keane give their views.

BBC2 (8.0) - The Big Catch. The final programme in the angling series - Liam Dale travels to Kazakhstan to fish for beluga sturgeon in the Caspian Sea. Apparently, the roe from the beluga sturgeon is used for the world's most expensive caviar, with one fish providing as much as £25,000 worth. The `one that got away' brings on a whole new, painful, meaning. NETWORK TWO (8.30) - Sideline View. Des Cahill and guests choose their hurling and football players of the year.

Saturday

UTV (11.50) - Live Formula One: Euro- pean Grand Prix Qualifying. It's the final race of the season, from Jerez in Spain. Michael Schumacher (who leads by a point) just needs Eddie Irvine to act out the role of a Sunday driver and motor around the circuit, at 10 mph, directly in front of Jacques Villeneuve and the championship is his. Not to be missed. UTV's update at 5.20 includes an interview with Damon Hill who talks about his year with Arrows and his future with Jordan.

Sunday

UTV (12.30), NETWORK TWO (12.40) - Live Formula One: European Grand Prix. Highlights of Eddie Irvine reversing in to Jacques Villeneuve on the first lap on UTV at 10.50 - a full showing of the race at 1.15 in the morning.

SKY SPORTS 1 (3.0) - Live Football: Arsenal v Aston Villa. Dennis Bergkamp's booking against Crystal Palace on Saturday means he misses Arsenal's meeting with Manchester United at Highbury next month. "Drat, darn, flip," United fans everywhere were not heard to cry on hearing the news.

NETWORK TWO (7.55) - FAI Opel Awards. The ninth annual Football Association of Ireland/Opel Soccer Awards.
