Sligo were 1-4 to 0-4 ahead after 23 minutes, helped by Adrian Marren’s seventh minute goal. But four points in succession from Smith, Niall Daly and Cathal Cregg nudged Roscommon in front before Smith’s penalty.
Johnny Martyn and Mark Breheny tagged on some eye-catching scores for Sligo but, despite not scoring for the last 15 minutes, the Roscommon held on.
