The Oireachtas hurling clash at muddy Callan yesterday was little short of a farce with Kilkenny beating Cork 0-5 to 0-2. In a truncated, 50-minute match Cork went 41 minutes without scoring. Kilkenny led by 0-3 to 0-2 at half-time.

Meanwhile, in the Waterford Crystal League at Parnell Park on Saturday a late goal by substitute George Conroy and a point in injury-time by Joe Coogan snatched a 1-12 to 2-9 draw for understrength Laois.

Dublin had led 2-8 to 0-4 at halftime, with their goals coming from Tomas McGrane and Derek McMullan.

Stylish Waterford inflicted a third defeat on the trot for Limerick by beating them 3-12 to 0-10 in a tame league game at the Gaelic Grounds.

Waterford led 2-7 to 0-5 at halftime, with Seamus Prendergast and Dan Shanahan the goalscorers, and Dave Bennett goaled in the second half.
