CHINA'S Xue Han lowered her 50 metres breast stroke world record from 30.98 seconds to 30.88 yesterday on the final day of the fifth round of the world swimming cup in Glasgow.
A further world record was in danger over the men's 100 metres butterfly. Australia's Michael Klim took the world cup gold medal in 52.09 seconds, two hundredths of a second outside the world record. England's James Hickman broke the European record to finish second in 52.34.
Consolation for Irish swimmers was a second Irish record for Nick O'Hare, of Coolmine, who lowered his 50 metres freestyle record to 22.77 seconds.
Adrian O'Connor, of New Ross, was sixth in the 50 metres backstroke in 25.86, six hundredths of a, second outside his 1994 Irish record set in Sheffield.
Cork's Lee Kelleher (14), faced Olympic medal opposition in the women's 200 metres butterfly. She acquitted herself superbly well with a fifth place time of 2:17.69, behind Olympic silver medallist Limin Liu, of China, first in 2:06.85. England's Margaretha Pedder was second in a new British record time of 2:07.33.
