TOSHINORI MUTO produced a stunning final round of 63 to win the Dunlop Phoenix 2011 in Miyazaki, Japan, by four strokes from Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
After Saturday’s play was washed out, reducing the tournament to 54 holes, Muto carded six birdies over the front nine at Phoenix Country Club to reach the turn in 30.
He then picked up three more shots on the way back with a bogey at the last the only blemish on his round to finish with a winning score of 12 under par.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry finished in a tie for third with Ricky Barnes on seven under par after posting a 68.
Overnight leader Fernandez-Castano, meanwhile, returned an even-par 71 that featured just one birdie and bogey to end the tournament eight-under.
His second place sees him climb into the world’s top 50 – at the expense of Tiger Woods who was busy picking up the decisive point for America in the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.
Fernandez-Castano took victory at the Singapore Open a week ago, and his place in the top 50 will earn him a Masters debut if he can stay there for another month.
