McMahon out for rest of league

GAELIC FOOTBALL INJURY NEWS:TYRONE FULL back Justin McMahon is the latest player to fall victim to an ankle injury, and looks set to miss the remainder of the Allianz Football League.

McMahon sustained the injury in Tyrone’s win over Antrim last Saturday week, but it has now necessitated further scans to establish the extent of the damage, with some sort of fracture appearing likely.

He will miss Tyrone’s next Division Two clash with Kildare on Sunday week, as will Enda McGinley, who also sustained a broken bone in his ankle during their win over Sligo last month.

Roscommon manager Fergal O’Donnell has paid an unfortunate price for recalling Senan Kilbride into his panel so soon after playing for St Brigid’s in the All-Ireland club final defeat to Crossmaglen on St Patrick’s Day. Kilbride – who hit a 0-8 on the day – lined out for Roscommon in their Division Four win over Clare last Sunday, but pulled a hamstring in the process. He faces a few weeks on the sidelines, but should be back in time for the opening defence of the county’s Connacht title against New York on May 1st.

O’Donnell was happy to have had Kilbride just three days after the club final, as he hit 0-2 and helped Roscommon to another win. Karl Mannion also came back from club duty and made a second-half appearance. Kilbride will miss this weekend’s tie with Wicklow, in Aughrim, a game that may decide who clinches the first promotional place. Roscommon are unbeaten and are one place behind Wicklow, who are on top, but have played an extra game due to the nine-team element of Division Four.
