Mayo SFC Final replay/Crossmolina 1-13 Ballaghaderreen 2-7: Crossmolina returned to McHale Park, Castlebar, yesterday with their homework done for this high-quality Mayo senior football final replay against Ballaghaderreen. The champions got out of jail with a late goal last Sunday but this time they were the dominant force.
Ciarán McDonald once again conducted matters and it was his sublime pass that crafted the goal for Brian Benson just before half-time to give the champions a 1-7 to 0-5 lead at the break.
But Ballaghaderreen levelled within 12 minutes of the restart, a superb goal from Andy Hanley making it 1-7 apiece.
McDonald, however, took centre stage with three points in a row, one a superb effort from play, reasserting control for the champions, who went five points clear with three minutes left.
Ballaghaderreen again showed their spirit, and a minute from the end of normal time Andy Moran threw his side a lifeline of sorts, a 20-yard screamer from a free flying through a packed Crossmolina goalmouth into the net.
Crossmolina's youngest player, Mark Leonard, sealed victory with a superb point three minutes into injury time.
The return of the suspended Tom Nallen and the introduction of Liam Moffatt into the attack proved critical for Crossmolina.
