David Loder went on a reconnaissance mission to Newmarket yesterday and walked off with one of the most prestigious prizes of the July Meeting for the second year running.

The trainer returned to his old stamping ground and sent out the Godolphin-owned Noverre to land the TNT July Stakes.

His charge, the 5 to 2 favourite, defeated Media Mogul by a shorthead in the Group Three contest.

Loder will soon be back permanently in Newmarket after a brief spell training for Godolphin at Evry in France.

Victor Chandler quote the colt at 33 to 1 for next year's Sagitta 2000 Guineas but Coral were more impressed and offer only 25s. Loder is expecting to be back in Newmarket to train from Stanley House, formerly the base of John Gosden, by the autumn.

The Maktoum family reigned again as Alshakr landed the sportingodds.com Falmouth Stakes.

Richard Hills managed to manoeuvre Hamdan Al-Maktoum's filly across to the strip of ground against the stands' rails that appears to be riding faster.

Alshakr, third in France's equivalent of the 1,000 Guineas last time, kept on well all the way to the line to defeat Croeso Cariad by one and a quarter lengths in the Group Two contest.

Pat Eddery, chasing his 12th jockeys' championship, produced a riding performance hailed as "vintage" by trainer John Dunlop when winning the Listed Bahrain Trophy on Cephalonia. Eddery dictated the pace on Cephalonia, the lesser-fancied of Dunlop's two runners at 8 to 1, in the near 15-furlong contest.

Hugging the stands' rails, Cephalonia quickened from three furlongs out and beat her stable companion Samsaam, the 7 to 4 favourite, by a neck.
